Spanish Dance evokes passion with dances that range from the fiery and seductive flamenco of Andalusia to the spirited jota, folk dances of Aragon.

 

For many Spanish dance immediately conjures up images of the strumming guitars, stomping feet and bright  red dresses of flamenco.  

 

 

Whislt the populartity

One of the best known traditional dances in Spain is what is known as La Jota.  Which I believe originated in the region of Aragon although there are different forms in other Spanish regions like Valencia, Castile and Navarra. Dancers elevate their legs as if they were doing some kind of fouetté combined with waltz like movements whislt, play the castanets with arched elevated arms.

I believe that  Major de Vilapicina i la Torre Llobeta, popular celebration in the Catala Region. Each municipality in Barcelona has its own party date of the year. The lady wearing a traditional dress and shawl is a jota dancer from the region of Aragon. She is a member of the dance group Abenjot representing such region of Spain.
