Photographing and filming your work, shows or choreography are a great way of recording what you have done, or marketing and promoting a current show.

Jills training as a dancer  and her intuitive sense of timing and drama combined with her eye for lighting have helped her build a reputation as a dance photographer.

A professional dancer for many years, Jilly  began documenting dance as a means of staying involved in the dance world she loves.  When understaking dance photography, the challenge for Jill in every project is to find a new way to see an old subject.  When photographing dance, Jill is always inspired by the dancers’ stunning combination of artistry and athleticism. For her their commitment which obviously extends beyond the rehearsals and performances- it is a way of life provides the energy and inspiration for her work.

Just like looking at a photography, watching someone dance needs no knowledge of language or experience of the art. However performing dance requires  deepest of committment and years of hard work.  Like wise shooting great dance photos requires a lot of practice and an understanding of the art.

The reason Jills  is drawn to dance photography is that it contains a puzzle or paradox. Photography is a still, frozen art which needs to capture the essennce of a fixed moment in time  while dance is an art of motion and ever flowing. Trying to capture and convey the motion  of dance by not using any motion can be a real challenge.

Dance is my passion and creative photography my art.
